How to find us

The Sheffield Adult Autism and Neurodevelopmental Service (SAANS) is based at the Michael Carlisle Centre in Nether Edge just outside Sheffield city centre. It's a good idea to try and plan your journey ahead of the day of your appointment.

Google maps is a website that many people use to plan journeys. It has maps, directions, 'street view' and satellite images.

Sometimes people think that SAANS is in the Michael Carlisle Centre on Osborne Road. SAANS is located on Lyndhurst Road.

In case of any problems when travelling to your appointment, you can call SAANS on 0114271 6964.

Travelling by car

If you’re travelling to your appointment by car you can make use of our free car park on site. There is limited parking but if you can’t find a space there is on-road parking available.

Our building is on the Lyndhurst Road side of the Michael Carlisle Centre. The way to the entrance is signposted in the car park - follow the signs to arrive at our reception.

If you get lost on the way, call our reception on 0114 271 6964 and we will help you find your way to us.

Car parking

There are four car parking spaces (and one disabled space) outside SAANS. There is also on-street parking available on Lyndhurst Road.

Travelling by bus

If you’re travelling by bus, we recommend you take the 56 bus. You should get off at the stop on Union Road - we’re just a short walk away.

You can find out more about public transport in Sheffield by visiting Travel South Yorkshire's website.

Entering the building

The entrance at SAANS has automatic doors which are locked for security. When people arrive they press the button on the intercom and they can tell the person who answers they are here for an assessment.

You need to give your name to the receptionist and they will let you into the building.

The door on the far left will then slide open automatically. As you walk through this door, another door in front of you will open automatically.

Walking through the entrance leads to the reception area.

You can then speak to the receptionist, telling them you are here for an assessment for ASD. You may be asked for your name and address.

Waiting for your appointment

It's a good idea to leave plenty of time for the journey to SAANS (in case it takes longer than expected).

Most people arrive a little early and have a short wait before their appointment.

The reception area is usually fairly quiet. However, you can choose to wait outside if you prefer.

You can ask the receptionist if the sensory room is available. If so, you will be guided to this quiet space.

Tea, coffee and snacks are available on a table next to the reception.

There is a price-list above the table and a small tin on the table for people to pay for the drinks and snacks.

To the right of the table is a water fountain and there are cups on the wall. There is no charge for water.

Whilst you are waiting for your appointment, we will ask you to complete the questionnaire in the research booklet and then give the booklet to a member of staff.
