Wellbeing support at the Porterbrook clinic

Group wellbeing sessions available to people on the waiting list

As part of our offer to those on the waiting list we hold several online group sessions focused on supporting you to manage your wellbeing.

These sessions are run by our psychological wellbeing practitioner, Amie and the peer support workers Helen and Sam.

Occasionally other clinic staff, such as our nurses may lead a session.

The sessions sensitively support you to manage common difficulties such as stress, anxiety and low mood while considering how this may link in with your transition and waiting here at the clinic.

We cover evidenced based techniques to manage these difficulties and provide you with resources that you can use independently.

The sessions are suitable for people on our waiting list who are experiencing mild to moderate difficulties, and who are not engaging in any other mental health support, counselling or therapy at the time of attending the session or sessions.

If you would like to express your interest in attending any of the group sessions below, please email porterbrookengagement@shsc.nhs.uk and we will be in contact to discuss your interest and suitability.

  • Managing unhelpful thinking – 9 September 2024
  • Managing low mood and motivation – 21 October 2024
  • Managing avoidance and panic – 2 December 2024
  • Managing worry and uncertainty – 13 January 2025
  • Promoting helpful health behaviours – 24 February 2025

Accessing mental health support while you wait

We encourage you to take care of your emotional and mental health whilst you are on our waiting list.

If you feel you need support with this, you can speak with your GP about accessing mental health support in your area.

You can also find a list of Talking Therapies services in your area here. This is a free NHS service that provides support for those who are experiencing mild to moderate difficulties.

In the clinic we employ peer support workers and a psychological wellbeing practitioner who can support with signposting to relevant services if required.
