Who is the Gender Identity Clinic for?

The Sheffield Gender Identity Clinic, also known as the Porterbrook Clinic, is a service for adults who are experiencing gender dysphoria.

The service is open to anyone over the age of 18 who experiences unease or distress because of their gender identity.

People who attend our service may be seeking a range of treatment options. We provide support for social transitioning and medical treatment to decrease gender identity distress.

How can I be referred to the clinic?

Typically, people are referred by their General Practitioner (GP).

However, referrals are accepted from any commissioned NHS England healthcare professional or provider.

If a referral is made by another healthcare professional we will still need to regularly liaise with your GP. If you have any concerns about this please contact the service in advance.

At the SHSC Gender Identity Clinic (Porterbrook), we cannot take self-referrals.
