Endcliffe Ward is a purpose built psychiatric intensive care unit which has 10 beds, all of which are individual rooms with en-suites.
This is a locked unit providing twenty-four-hour care for people in a mental health crisis who require a safe, controlled environment with high intensity nursing care.
Endcliffe Ward is a low stimulus environment with high levels of observation and high intensity care planning.
Each of our service users has a care plan which outlines specific details of the treatment and support they will be offered. This includes a named nurse who will be allocated to service users and work with them throughout their time on the ward.
Service users on Endcliffe Ward have access to a range of professionals, including Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Support Workers and Occupational Therapists. The team share their expertise and experience to provide the very best care to our service users.
Endcliffe Ward serves the whole Sheffield and works closely with services across the city.
Facilities
Endcliffe Ward is based at the Longley Centre at the Northern General Hospital. The ward is accessible on foot, by a number of public transport routes, there are railings to park a bicycle or there is also a car park on-site. If you choose to drive, please ensure you speak to reception who can provide you with a parking permit. You can plan your route on Google Maps here.
All of our service users have access to laundry facilities and lockable storage.
We do recommend that service users do not bring high value items such as laptops or tablets onto the ward, and do so at their own risk.
Visiting hours
Visiting times are subject to change if there are infectious outbreaks, such as COVID-19.
All visits must be pre-booked with the team on the ward.
There are hour-long bookable visiting slots available on the following days:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- 10am-11am
- 11am-12pm
- 3pm-4pm
- 4pm-5pm
- 6pm-7pm
- 7pm-8pm.
Tuesday and Thursday
- 3pm-4pm
- 4pm-5pm
- 6pm-7pm
- 7pm-8pm
Arrangements can be made outside these times but only in exceptional circumstances, and require prior discussion with the team.
Meal times are protected and visits are available from 12pm to 1pm and 5pm to 6pm.
All visitors are asked to contact the ward 30 minutes before the arranged visit time to ensure that the visit can take place. There may be occasions when arranged visits have to be cancelled due to safety concerns.

Referrals to Endcliffe Ward are made via the Trust’s adult acute mental health inpatient wards.
