Eligibility

The eligibility and selection criteria for the Early Intervention Service's first episode psychosis pathway is applicable to:

Age 16+

Psychotic experiences occur only in the context of acute intoxication
 

If psychotic symptoms persist for more than 7 days following detox than a referral can be considered

 

Under 65 years of age

People with a primary diagnosis of psychotic depression and bipolar without psychotic symptoms


Symptoms explained by other diagnosis e.g., EUPD/ASD/ADHD/OCD/PTSD/organic cause (epilepsy, head injury, haemorrhage, infarction, tumours delirium, all forms of dementia)

Presenting with first episode of psychosisPrevious three years with an Early Intervention Service
Psychotic symptoms presenting for over seven daysPreviously treated on anti-psychotic medication
Should usually have a Sheffield GPPrevious psychotic episode
 People who have severe learning disability with communication difficulties which render them unable to benefit from the service

 

The eligibility and selection criteria for the Early Intervention Service's at-risk mental states (ARMS) pathway is applicable to:

InclusionExclusion
Age 16+Currently in crisis
Under 35 years of ageNot currently help seeking for talking therapy
Help seeking (wanting to engage in a therapeutic pathway)Current of past anti-psychotic medication treatment
Drop in social functioning in past 12 months lasting for at least one month or chronic low social functionOnset of symptoms over three years
Trait vulnerability in conjunction with the abovePrevious treatment under a first episode psychosis or ARMS service
BLIPS (Brief Limited Intermittent Psychotic Symptoms)Current excessive substance misuse
Attenuated symptomsNot the primary need, symptoms explained by other diagnosis e.g., EUPD/ASD/ADHD/OCD/organic cause (epilepsy, head injury, haemorrhage, infarction, tumours delirium, all forms of dementia)

 

Referral process

  • All referrals to the Early Intervention Service must be made by your GP or through the Primary and Community Mental Health team

Geographical population covered

  • People should usually have a Sheffield GP
