Sheffield Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team (SCBIRT)

The Sheffield Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team (SCBIRT) is a specialist community team working with people who have had a traumatic or acquired brain injury, their families and carers. The service is based at Albert Terrace Road but is registered with the Care Quality Commission at Trust Headquarters, Fulwood House.

The aim of the service is to help people to achieve their aims in life, to lead a life that is as full and independent as possible.  They work with service users to enable them to achieve a quality of life that is satisfying and meaningful to them. The team work with people who are re-establishing themselves back into their community soon after a brain injury or a minor head injury, and also with people who may have had an injury many years before and have identified things that they want to change which the team can help with.

The team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Neuro/Clinical Psychologists. The Long Term Neurological Conditions Building (Upperthorpe) is a purpose built single storey rehabilitation facility. The team also work with people directly in the community, in their homes, place of work or study or in local leisure facilities.
