Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) is marking the NHS’s 75th Birthday with a tree planting and time capsule burial ceremony on 8 June 2023.
The event is the launch of wider celebrations happening across the trust which includes a commitment to plant 75 trees in the year following the 75th birthday, the publication of a specially commissioned poem, a fantastic prize draw for SHSC’s dedicated workforce and a celebration event in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University on the NHS’s 75th birthday, 5 July.
One of the highlights of the activity for NHS 75 has been commissioning the Poet Laureate for Sheffield, Danae Wellington, to create a bespoke poem that honours the NHS for all it does. Danae has worked with service users and staff and will be premiering the poem at the tree planting and time capsule ceremony, with a second performance reserved for the 75th birthday event.
Organisations and businesses across Sheffield have also come together to help SHSC celebrate and reward all the dedicated doctors, nurses and wider workforce via a special prize draw that will be taking place in the run-up to the NHS’s big day on 5 July. With loads of fantastic prizes including: a case of Henderson’s Relish, Leadmill tickets, a Tesla test drive, Sheffield FC tickets, National Video Game Museum admission, Everly Pregnant Brothers tickets, Tramlines Music Festival weekend tickets and loads of other unique to Sheffield prizes!
Across the trust there are also several art initiatives taking place, including a collaborative mosaic that brings together community service users and people on wards to create a large collaborative mosaic artwork to be displayed at an SHSC site. One metre high, 3D ‘NHS 75’ letters will also tour SHSC’s services where the trust will be inviting staff and service users to doodle their thanks to the NHS.
To round off our NHS 75th Birthday celebrations SHSC is proud to be partnering with Sheffield Hallam University to help celebrate their current and future workforce! The event, which will be held at the University's Collegiate Crescent campus on 5 July, the actual 75th birthday of the NHS, will see colleagues and students come together for a range of activities including art workshops, poetry, mindful gardening and therapy dogs.
The focus across all of these NHS75 events is on celebrating all the best bits of the NHS and inspiring the next generation of the workforce to ensure health and social care within Sheffield continues to grow over the next 75 years.
