Rio, our new electronic patient record system has launched!

On Tuesday 25 March at 7am we successfully launched Rio, our new electronic patient record system.

This is a big transition for SHSC and Rio will change the way we work. Rio provides essential benefits that will ultimately give our staff more time to spend with our service users.

Our digital teams have worked in collaboration with our clinical staff to make sure the transition has been as smooth as possible.

Raihan Talukdar, our chief clinical information officer said: "It took a lot of preparation to get Rio in place, we are really pleased to see how our teams have worked together. We are excited for our staff to get to use Rio and see safe record keeping for our service users in action."

Our Rio champions played a huge part in helping their teams to feel supported during the launch. We had over 60 Rio champions working within teams across SHSC, taking time out of their busy schedules to make sure their colleagues felt supported. Thank you to all our Rio champions!

What are the benefits of Rio?

Rio will make our service user record keeping safer, simpler and more standardised as well as giving our staff:

  • Quicker access to service users’ records
  • Real time access to service user information and lab results
  • Quicker service user registration and appointment scheduling
  • Faster communication with other services
  • Customisable personal workflows

Georgia Wood, mental health social worker at liaison psychiatry, said: "After using Rio, you realise how straightforward and user friendly the system is. I really love that we can see all our notes in one place."

The new system will be a big change for our staff and services, but will ultimately help us to improve our record keeping across our services.

Chris Reynolds, chief digital information officer (interim), said: "This has been one of the toughest implementations I have worked on. It has been made possible due to the expertise of the Digital team working brilliantly with busy clinical teams who spent their valuable time to help us make Rio a great clinical tool for SHSC."

We would like to thank everyone across SHSC who has worked with us to launch Rio safely. Now, as our staff get used to the new system we are looking towards a bright future of patient record keeping with Rio.
