International Human Rights Day 2022 with guest speaker Patrick Ettenes

For International Human Rights Day 2022, SHSC will be hosting Bring Dementia Out co-founder Patrick Ettenes.

Patrick is the youngest person in the UK to live with his form of early onset dementia (frontal lobe atrophy). He is a renowned public speaker, author and advocate, highlighting the needs of those living with early onset dementia and the rights of LGBT+ people affected by dementia.

Patrick set up the volunteer-led LGBT Dementia Network, is a consultant at the LGBT Foundation and co-launched the Bring Dementia Out initiative with the Alzheimer’s Society. As a result of this work, Patrick was awarded Positive Role Model of the Year in 2019 at The National Diversity Awards and in 2021 he was one of 10 everyday LGBTQ heroes honoured at the Attitude Pride Awards.

Patrick has worked throughout the UK, Canada and Barbados - where he is originally from.

SHSC is privileged to have Patrick speak to us about his experiences and will provide great insight into how mental health organisations such as ours can enhance our capacity to support those from often unheard groups.

Patrick will give a talk followed by a question and answer session.

There will also be an opportunity to hear about SHSC's ongoing human rights initiatives and future plans as well as a chance provide input into those plans.
