Higher Research Degrees in Art Therapy
Opportunities exist for experienced art therapists to undertake a Higher Research Degree, including:
- Doctor of Philosophy – PhD;
- Master of Philosophy – MPhil;
- Masters by Research – MRes.
The main source of support for intending research students is their supervisory team. Each student has a Director of Studies, complemented by a first supervisor and occasionally a second supervisor, who brings an additional perspective to the research process.
Staff working with the Art Therapy Northern Programme are happy to support experienced art therapists in making research proposals. It is possible to work with both Dr Arnell Etherington and Dr Chris Wood in formulating proposals for higher research degrees with Universities. We can provide support towards applying either for NIHR bursaries, or fee based PhD studies.
A bi annual series of lectures and seminars are currently offered for art therapists and art psychotherapists with established clinical experience who wish to join this professional grouping as part of continuing professional development with a view to potentially registering for higher degrees in local universities.
