New Non-Executive Directors strengthen Board of Directors
The Council of Governors has approved the appointment of two highly experienced individuals as new Non-Executive Directors to join the Board of Directors of Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC).Sandie Keene CBE, a social worker by profession, has worked in local authorities across Yorkshire, retiring in 2014 after eight years as Director of Adult Social Services in Leeds. Keene, a past president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, was awarded a CBE for services to social care in 2016.
Following retirement Sandie has worked with the Local Government Association to support health and social care improvement. She is Independent Chair of a Safeguarding Adults Board and the Sheffield Diocesan Safeguarding panel as well as being Trustee of a National Housing Association.Laura Serrant is Professor of Nursing in Health and Social Care Research, Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University. She is an appointed Ambassador for the Equality Challenge Unit for Higher Education.
Laura recently completed an 18-month secondment at NHS England in the Chief Nursing Officer’s Nursing Directorate as Head of Evidence and Strategy, evaluating the impact of the national Compassion in Practice Strategy for nurses, midwives and care staff.

The Non-Executive Director posts are for a period of three years. Sandie and Laura will start in their new roles on 01 April 2018.
