Hat trick for the Trust at national awards
Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust scooped three awards at the Positive Practice in Mental Health awards ceremony in Liverpool last week.
The nationally renowned Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards recognise and reward outstanding service delivery in the mental health sector.
Currently in its sixth year, the awards attract hundreds of entries from NHS organisations across the country every year. Winners are chosen by a panel of 130 judges, made up of service users, medical professionals and MPs.
The first award win on the night was for the RESPECT training programme in the Mental Health Safety Improvement category. The training was recognised for eliminating the use of face-down restraint throughout the trust’s services.
Next to take home the gold was our dementia inpatient unit at Grenoside Grange (G1), winning in the Specialist Services category for supporting service users with their emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing. The team from G1 were also highly commended in the Mental Health Safety Improvement category.
Finally, Forest Close, our forensic intensive rehabilitation service, won in the Specialist Mental Health Rehabilitation category. The Trust’s rehabilitation strategy has significantly reduced the number of people referred out of the city, ensuring service users remain close to their friends, family and carers.
The Trust also had a further two services shortlisted. The Community Enhanced Recovery Team was highly commended in the Specialist Mental Health Rehabilitation category, thanks to the team’s pioneering collaboration with South Yorkshire Housing Association.
The Liaison Service was also highly commended in the Integration of Physical and Mental Health Care category for its excellent work in the detection and early treatment of people presenting at A&E who had mental health needs.
Kevan Taylor, our Chief Executive, said: “To be shortlisted from such a wide and strong field is amazing, but to win three awards is a great achievement. It’s fantastic that the hard work our staff put in, day in, day out has been recognised at a national level.
“I’m privileged to work with so many people who are committed to providing compassionate care to the people of Sheffield.”
