Grenoside Grange, also known as G1 Ward, is a specialist ward for people who have complex dementia and associated challenging or highly distressing behaviour.

Set in a large, private grounds the ward has 16 beds and is the only one of its kind in Sheffield. 

Each of our residents has their own private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom that has a range of built in mobility aids.

We have several communal lounges for residents to relax in and take part in the range of activities provided by staff. Lots of our residents get involved in singing, card games and a range of other crafts. 

If the weather is nice you’ll often find residents spending time in the garden which has accessible flower beds, lawn games and an activity shed for woodwork. 

Our residents are supported by a team with a variety of specialities, including nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, support workers, and therapy assistants. 

Residents also have access to regular occupational therapy, physiotherapy and a podiatrist who visits every six to eight weeks. 

Visitors 

We have a large free car park on site which visitors are welcome to use. 

You can arrange to visit a loved one on the ward at any reasonable hour, however, we do ask you to avoid entering the dining room during meal times. 

Lunch is served between 12.15pm and 1.15pm and dinner is served between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. 

Unfortunately, children aged under 12 are not allowed onto the ward, however, we can sometimes facilitate visits for younger children in the entrance area. 

This decision will be taken at the time of the request and will be risk assessed by the nurse in charge of that shift.

How is the service accessed?

Patients are only admitted to the ward if their needs cannot be met by other services in the city. Most patients are admitted under the Mental Health Act. 

We only accept direct referrals from other Trust services – these referrals must be made to the G1 Ward gatekeeper. 

Referrals from GPs or mental health services must be first made to the Older Adults Community Mental Health Team.
