Respite Care

Respite Care

Description of the service

Our respite care unit is based in the south east of Sheffield. It is an eleven bedded unit providing a city wide residential respite resource to adults with mental health needs 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We aim to provide a high quality specialist service that includes:

  • Regular planned stays (rolling respite service)
  • Short stays
  • Emergency/crisis stays.

We ensure all parts of the service are sensitive to the diverse needs of service users and agree individual plans of care based on assessed need.

We support and assist people to manage their mental health and well being, develop their skills and confidence to maintain living in the community, help them to manage and prevent relapse and support the role of carers.

There is a minimum of 2 staff in operation 24 hours.

How is the service accessed?

As a city wide resource we take referrals from all Community Mental Health Teams, Sheffield Outreach Team, the Crisis Resolutation and Home Treatment Team and inpatient acute service via Discharge facilitators.
