Sheffield Community Access and Interpreting Service (SCAIS) is an interpreting service that provides face-to-face interpreting, telephone interpreting and training.
Established in 1997, SCAIS started out as a small project. Our ongoing provision of first class services has enabled us to grow year-on-year to over 38,000 requests in 2012/2013 to the NHS, private, statutory and voluntary sectors.
We are part of Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust and pride ourselves on supporting some of the most disadvantaged people in society to access services and gain the support and information they need throughout South Yorkshire and beyond.
SCAIS has face-to-face interpreters in over 80 languages and can provide telephone-based interpreting services in over 240 languages. With the introduction of a new database, telephone system and online booking facility, SCAIS has the capacity to provide a first class service to its users whether large or small.
The office is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, except for Thursdays when we are open 08.30am to 1pm. Appointments can be booked outside these hours by prior arrangement. We offer a 24 hour emergency interpreting service when the office is closed. Our telephone interpreting service is also 24-hour.
